ADOPTED!!!

Week 9
Tina finished up the last of her classwork this week and headed home with her new family to start a new life.  We wish her and her new family all the best and look forward to getting updates on all of her new adventures!

Week 8
Tina excelled in her studies, this week! She is listening, breaking off from the other dogs during play time and is so very gentle with the smaller dogs. She and Oliver are getting along famously! They love to run and wrestle with each other...sometimes for hours!  She has the prison staff wrapped around her paw.  They tell her handler what a great dog she is...we think that you are too, Tina!  Keep up the good work!

Week 7
Tina has become sort of the "Team Mom" over the last two weeks.  She loves all of the other dogs and helps to bring out the best in them by showing them through her actions how to behave within the pack.  She has taught Sadie that barking will get you nowhere.  She taught Harley to refrain from lunging when you're in a mood.  And she taught Maggie to be brave and trust the pack!  She is so sweet and has drawn attention from every corner of the prison.  All sorts of people come to visit her everyday to meet her and see how well behaved she is.  They're always impressed with her gentle nature and winning personality.  She is truly on of our star students and we can't wait to see her finally get the home she deserves!

Week 6
Tina is ready!!  She's ready to get started on a new life, with a new family, in a new home with new possibilities.  We know it, her handlers know it and best of all...Tina knows it.  She is a star in her obedience classes.  We've watched her sit at the very end of the cell block, with all sorts of hustle and bustle while her handlers are at the other end picking out a new toy for her.  She waited steadily until they called her over to choose one for herself and she was so proud you could see it all over her furry, little body.  She has become a fast favorite because of her winning personality and has done a great deal of ambassador work making sure that everyone knows just how nice a pit bull really is.  People always say that she's so nice for a pit bull.  The truth is, she's exactly like a pit bull.  it bulls are known for their good personalities, loyalty to their families and ability to learn and adapt.  It is so sad that the awful industry of illegal dog fighting has branded this wonderful breed the way that it has.  But, that doesn't deter Tina.  She continues to "wow" people daily with her sweet disposition and mellow nature.  In fact. the handlers have actually taken to calling her "the nanny" for the way she looks out for all of the other dogs and her people.  What a girl!!

Week 5
Tina has become a fantastic ambassador for the pit bull breed.  They are such misunderstood dogs due to the underground world of dog fighting which has exploited and tortured these beautiful creatures.  Staff from all over the institution now come to the cell block to meet "the nice pit bull."  Her reputation has spread far and wide and everyone who comes to see her can't get over how sweet and well-mannered she is.  Tina is shattering the stereotype of this breed and educating lots of people with her wagging tail, sweet doggie kisses and gentle manner.  She is truly a gem and someone will be very lucky to call her a part of their family!

Week 4
Tina has become quite the social butterfly!  She loves to meet new people and is always on her best behavior.  Her handlers say that she's going through a little bit of a rebellious stage and they have a hard time not giggling watching her try to exert her independence.  They say she'll lay in her crate for hours and play with her toys and bones.  But, when they tell her it's time for bed, she runs right out and refuses to go back in.  They throw in her favorite toy, but that no longer works because she's on to their methods!  They say that they can see all over her face how much she wants the toy, but pretends to ignore it.  After they help her into her crate, they let her out again and it's all tail wagging from there.  Once the routine is done, she heads right in for the night with no arguments.  What a funny girl!!

Week 3
Tina is a lap dog.  A large lap dog, but a lap dog all the same.  She snuggles in every evening to watch television with her handlers and if they sit down on the floor, she's right their curling up with them.  She has developed quite a love for balls.  She especially loves the partially deflated soccer ball in the dog yard.  It's her favorite and she loves to run around throwing it in the air and chasing it.  She is a sweet girl who enjoys the company of her people and is a good friend to other dogs.  She loves to "people watch" and just the other day she climbed onto the chair at the front of the block and just watched as all of the people came and went.  She was perfectly happy to accept some pets and ear scratches too, but she really loved just watching all of the action.  She is really an adorable girl.  She'll be out at a special event to celebrate Pit Bull Awareness Month on Sunday, October 26th.  What a wonderful ambassador for a truly misunderstood breed.  She'll be at the Bow Wow Pow Wow from 10-2 on Sunday.  The event is being held at Cold Springs Farm and Pet, 180 Zions View Road, Manchester.  Hope to see you there!

Week 2
Tina is a beauty and she is making great progress in the program!  She loves to learn and that has made her an absolute joy to train.  She loves to snuggle and is extremely gentle in her manner.  She keeps all of her paws on the ground whenever she meets new friends and has impeccable house manners.  She is a sweet, sweet girl with lots of potential just waiting for a home to call her own.

Week 1
Tina has had an amazing start.  She knew no commands when she entered our doors last week, but she has now mastered sit, down, wait and out.  She has a very sweet personality and has become a fast favorite with both inmates and staff.  She loves to play with soccer balls and romp around in the dog yard.  Her handlers are already able to check and brush her teeth, clean her ears and handle her paws.  She is a lovely girl with a great temperament considering all that she has been through in the past year.  We hope she'll continue to blossom and thrive while she waits for her perfect match!

UPDATE - 10/5/08
Tina has arrived and she's even prettier in person!  We're so thrilled that we were able to work with her shelter and give her a second chance.  Tina had a great life for awhile, but lost t all in a house fire.  She lost part of her family and in particular, the boy who cared for her.  Because of their grief, the family couldn't take her back because of the constant reminder of the son they lost.  So, Tina stayed behind when the other family dog was reunited.  We hope she'll be lucky enough to find a new family to call her own during her time at the prison.  Despite her loss, she's very friendly and sweet and we can't wait to get to know her better!  Tina is available for adoption through The Phoenix Rescue Group.
