Week 9
Taavi’s handler reports that he’s getting better at grasping the concept of his fetch command! “He is doing it consistently without treats…just praise.” This little boy is also regularly approaching everyone he sees. “He knows that nobody is going to hurt him, and he will just run up to them with his fluffy tail wagging! He is sweet, loving, and eager to please. Taavi is calm and very well-mannered in the cell, but he also can be full of energy, and loves to play after he trains. All in all, he is a great dog.”

Week 8
Taavi and his handler spent a lot of time outside this week around distractions. “He gets excited at first, but he will eventually settle and focus on me. He is very treat motivated, and will try hard to get one.” Taavi’s handler also reports that his stays are improving, and he also has learned that “whenever I throw a toy, he’ll get a treat when he brings it back to me. I just began to attach the ‘fetch’ command to this routine, so that will be his cue after a few more days.” Keep up the good work, Taavi!

Weeks 6 & 7
Taavi got the chance to play in the snow and “he loved it.” He also did well accepting Nash and Checkers when they entered the program. His handler put a lot of attention on Taavi’s sits/stays and down/stays this past week, and “he is doing much better.” This pup also learned how to shake, and “he likes it so much that he does it occasionally when no one is within reach.” You have to love him! Taavi now goes into his crate with a simple “in” command, “which is huge, considering how he was when he first came here.” Since the weather has been so nice lately, this pup and his handler have been spending longer periods of time outside. “Taavi is very playful, and loves hopping around and chasing the things that I throw.” You’re really coming along, little boy!

Week 5
Taavi’s handler reports that “he has made significant strides with his obedience cues this week. It seems like something clicked all at once, and he now understands ‘wait’ and ‘leave it.’ He also does his down/stays and sit/stays much, much better.” Taavi’s handler uses his water bowl as a training tool to help this little boy learn his skills. “I’ve never seen a dog with such an insatiable urge for water, so using that for ‘wait’ was challenging, but very effective. Overall, Taavi is coming along great with everything.”

Week 4
Taavi’s handler is happy to report that he and Joey did well meeting each other this week. “They were introduced gradually and now mingle in a dog run together off-leash. We think they’ll start playing together the more comfortable they get to their surroundings.” Taavi’s handler adds that “speaking of playing, he has shown his playful side this week. He likes chasing balls and is learning to bring them back and releasing them with his ‘out’ cue. He also likes to play tug of war with his rope toys.” In addition, he also received a new penguin toy this week - the floppy kind without the stuffing - he loves it as you can see in the video above. He likes to pounce on it, sqeuak it and then wait for you to play along with him. Keep learning and having fun, little boy!

Weeks 2 & 3
Taavi’s handler reports that the new kid on the block’s comfort level grows each day! “He is doing good in his crate. He goes in there more and more to investigate. He also likes meeting new people.” Taavi’s obedience training is “slowly coming along. He focuses very, very well. He is learning his sit/stay command, specifically without distractions.” Taavi is also getting some fun time with his handler. “He loves rain puddles, and will walk in and lick the rain at the same time. It’s a great time to teach him ‘leave it.’” Taavi also had a chance for some extended yard time last week. His handler was amused when his pup picked out the biggest toy (a deflated basketball). The two of them had a grand time playing tug of war and chase with Taavi’s new prize! You’re doing great, little one!

Week 1
Taavi’s handlers had him in their care only two days when they wrote their first journal about him. Understandably, this pup was very nervous his first day, but he is already getting better! “His overall demeanor has improved drastically. Taavi is noticeably more comfortable now. His handlers report that this pup is “a sweet, loving dog. He is very eager to please.” Through no fault of his own, Taavi has had mixed reviews from his pack mates, but “he just ignored them all thus far. This may change as the ‘Honeymoon’ state ends, so we will watch carefully.” Taavi got a bath and brushing on his first day, and he took it like a champ! “He is treat motivated, and instantly focused on us which is great as we begin his basic training.” In fact, this pup already knows his sit command and he quickly learned the down command. Welcome to the program, Taavi!

Taavi is heading to the big house this week. This
little guy just needs a crash course in manners and some stability to help him find his way back into the pack. He is
a sweet and handsome, seven year old American Eskimo Dog who is available for adoption through
