Week 12
Shiloh spent his last week at the prison honing his obedience and social skills. His handlers report that “all around, Shiloh is doing good and making constant improvement.” Good boy! “We hate to see him go, but we will be happy to know that he is going to a loving home. He is such a personal dog, who loves to be next to someone at all times.” In fact, Shiloh climbed up on his handler’s bunk and laid in his lap one day this week. “Shiloh must have felt that he needed more attention than my dog report.” This pup went to his forever home over the weekend, and we couldn’t be happier for him! We’ll miss you, sweet boy!

Week 11
“This week with Shiloh was fun!!” Not only did his handlers continue to work with him on his commands, they continued to use mental stimulation to keep him occupied when he couldn’t go outside for some exercise. Shiloh was able to get exercise indoors, however, in the form of playing catch with a softball. His handlers rolled it or tossed it, and Shiloh “tore off after it, got it and brought it back to us ready for another round of fun!” His handlers can’t say enough about this pup’s personality! “He is such a ham - always asking for attention. He is such a smart, loving dog. He will be a great member of someone’s family. Hopefully, soon, someone will take him home and love him as much as he will love them.” As you can see, Shiloh has found his forever family, and we couldn’t be happier for him. Way to go, Shiloh!

Week 10
Shiloh decided to add something new to his diet this week...snow!  He eats it by the mouthful and loves it.  He also loves to play, run, sniff and dig in the snow.  His handlers continue to work on the basics with him to keep his skills sharp for when he heads home.  He has needed a little extra mental stimulation this week since he lost some exercise time due to the snow.  Fortunately, Shiloh is always easy to please so he was happy to work on some new tricks and other things with his buddies.  After he's had his playtime, Shiloh likes to lay with his handlers.  One of his handlers reports that Shiloh likes to lay at his feet while he's writing or watching television.  He's happy and content just to be with his friends.  Shiloh has made a ton of friends in his time on the block.  Even people who aren't typically fond of dogs have taken a shine to Shiloh.  What a boy!!

Week 9
Shiloh is an exceptionally sweet dog.  He loves to sleep in the bunk with his handlers and has worked his way up to sharing the pillow.  His handler says it's like having a personal heater next to him.  If Shiloh wakes up first, he waits patiently for his handler to do the same.  Then, it's kisses galore as if to say "Good morning, let's get ready to play!"

Shiloh's training is really coming along.  His recalls are wonderful and he always comes when he's called.  He can do all of his commands with either verbal cues or hand signals.  He brings so much joy to his handlers and they say that he's the most "caring" dog they've ever known.  They also report that Shiloh has two favorite toys...stuffed toys with squeakers.  They say he treats them like puppies and carries them around with him very gently.  He comes running whenever he hears the squeaky sound and takes them as gently as could be.  Shiloh's handlers are both hoping that he finds a home of his own very soon.  They say that he is wonderful makes their days better, but that it will make them even happier to know that he is in a home of his own with a family who loves him.

Week 8
"Shiloh is doing well with his training. He gets most of it." His handlers spent more time on his sit/stay commands and they saw much improvement this week! He even let another handler in the program train him and "he responded very well" Shiloh also has become more tolerant of having the other dogs around him! Good boy! "He continues to be a gentle and loving dog to every person he meets. He greets people well and, most of the time, sits right away before they give him attention." Unfortunately, this pup hurt his back this week. His handlers think that it was caused either by his running hard in the play area behind the block or his jumping in the dog run because Shiloh seemed to slow down after both activities. Even though he's in recovery, however, this handsome boy continues to love meeting and greeting his favorite people on the block. "Everybody just loves him." Since his injury, Shiloh has been treated to plenty of relaxation time in his bed, and lots of TLC from his worried handlers. "We're hoping that he heals very soon." We all have the same wish for you, sweet Shiloh!

Week 7
"Shiloh is showing loads of improvement!" He knows all of his commands, and he's working well while on-leash! His handlers report that this pup had a grand time in the snow this week! "We were playing, and I bounced a tennis ball. It got stuck in a snow drift. Shiloh didn't hesitate...he jumped right in, and he was covered with it. He came out, and looked like he had a white mustache. The first thing that came to my mind was the commercial about "Got Milk?" His handlers also say that Shiloh has "lots of love to share." He certainly proved that at Borders in Camp Hilll on Saturday! In fact, one of the HOPE volunteers likened him to a little Romeo when it came to meeting the customers who came over to our table to pay him a call! Back at the prison, "he always seems to make everyone's day brighter. He will be a great addition to a loving family."

Weeks 5& 6
Shiloh's handlers report that "he is coming along swell, and he's had a great couple of weeks." His commands are much stronger, and his attention is getting better each day! His handlers have particularly spent time working on his stays, leash walking and waits to improve his attention and patience. Shiloh is still getting some socialization skills when it comes to the other dogs in the program, but he's improving! One of his handlers made a personal goal to improve his physical health. Who better than Shiloh to help him with his exercise program? "We spent two days out in the dog yard chasing each other around with basketballs. He loves running around with dog toys." He also continues to love playing tug of war! Both of his handlers have commented about the gentle side of Shiloh. He got a couple of new toys for Christmas, "and he treats them like pups. He carries them around gently and hides them under this blanket." Shiloh is "also remarkable when meeting new people. He just loves it, and everybody loves him!" Of course, anyone interested in adopting Shiloh, will also have to realize that he's a bed hog, and likes to lick your feet to wake you up. Are those bad things? We HOPE not!

Week 4
Although cold and windy weather doesn't bother Shiloh, his handlers decided to concentrate on indoor training this week. Shiloh continued to work on his loose leash walking. Since he can sometimes want to "GO GO GO," his handlers know that this will continue to be one of this pup's lessons. Like last week, "some things come easily to Shiloh like touch, out (with toys) and other commands. Other training isn't sinking in so fast. It seems that he understands all of his commands, however, he picks and chooses which are suitable to his liking." That having been said, Shiloh is doing well with laying down on command, sitting, shaking hands and touching his nose to his handlers' palms. His handlers will continue to patiently work with Shiloh to like all of his commands! Outside of the "training stuff," this pup continues to bring joy to his handlers because of how loving he is. One of his favorite games is tug of war with a rope. "He and I enjoy it greatly. He releases the rope when told, and waits to play again!" Shiloh also continues to be one of his handler's alarm clock. "He wakes me up every morning by climbing on my bunk and licking me to death. He always keeps me laughing!" Shiloh had his first outing as a HOPE ambassador at Borders in Camp Hill last week, and he was a cutie! He thought that greeting the customers was a lot of fun, and proved his handlers right about how loving he is. He had a kiss for everyone! Shiloh might still have some work to do, but he's well on his way to his forever home! We're cheering for you, sweet boy!

Week 3
Shiloh continued to do well with his homework assignments! This week, he worked on his loose-leash walking, laying down, sitting and staying commands. Some things come "easy for him," but other things aren't that easy. His handlers say, however, that overall, they are seeing "a lot of improvement in him. Shiloh listens well and his temperament is very mild. He watches everything we do, which is good, because it's easier to keep his attention." This pup still needs some work with becoming friends with his 4-legged tier mates (a task that his handlers will continue to help him through), but "he is always happy to meet new people!" Shiloh continues to enamor himself to his handlers with his antics! "The cold weather doesn't seem to bother Shiloh at all. Even when it's really cold and windy, he still wants to play and run around the dog yard. In the meantime, I'm huddled up in layers of clothes trying to keep warm!" One day, Shiloh was playing catch with a basketball. He chased it, jumped up, missed it and rolled over. "The look on his face was priceless, nevertheless, he still wanted to play!" When in his cell, Shiloh will sometimes play with a rope, but he prefers his chew toys. He also has made himself comfortable on one of his handlers' beds. "Most of the time, that is where he can be found. As I'm writing this report, he is laying next to me watching my pen move." Although they know they still have some "barriers to work out," Shiloh's handlers also know that "he's one of the friendliest dogs we've ever met and he'll be a great dog for any family."

Week 2
After week two with Shiloh, his handlers are learning new things about him every day! "Shiloh likes to start the day by either jumping on top of me, or nibbling on my toe to wake me up. He's not much for sleeping in." This pup is starting to settle into his routine, and he's coming out of his shell more and more as the days go by. His handlers worked on his loose-leash walking and his focus exercises this week. Shiloh is a feisty pup, so sometimes, he doesn't always listen to his handlers the way they would like him to...but he's getting better! "Although his energy level sometimes gets the better of him, he shows us that he is very intelligent." Shiloh also is still adjusting to being a member of the pack, so his handlers plan to focus on his socialization skills around his canine compadres in the coming weeks. Shiloh loves to play tug-of-war with one of his handlers out in the yard. As soon as he's given the "out" command, Shiloh will release the rope and will wait patiently to play the game again. Overall, his handlers report that "his training is going well, and he is progressing." As for his personality, Shiloh's handlers say that "he is an amazing dog, and full of life. I think he'd fit in well with any family. He is very friendly, and always puts a smile on my face." You're a charmer, sweet boy!

Week 1
After a little less than a week with our newcomer, Shiloh's handlers report that they are over the moon about him! "Shiloh has us shaking our heads at his amusing personality. The first thing I noticed about him was his cool eyes. He is a very friendly pooch and is well-mannered. He keeps surprising us with how loving he is." Shiloh's handlers kept his homework to the basics this week, such as sitting, waiting and learning to walk on-leash for a couple of reasons. First, he's still getting used to his new environment. Second, they don't think he's had much training in his life. That having been said, it appears that Shiloh is adapting well to prison life and his handlers are "very impressed with how well he's grasped onto the training that we've given him." Since he's such an easy-going pup, his handlers plan to begin his training in earnest next week. Shiloh is also making friends throughout the block. "He is friendly to everyone he meets. He often greets them by sitting and waiting until they bend down so that he can give them a kiss." He also loves his time in the yard! "I take him out every morning, and he loves it. I kick the basketball, and he tears off running after it so fast, that his tongue hangs out of his mouth because he's so excited." Shiloh also has already received bed privileges. Most of the time, he lays at his handler's feet, but sometimes, he just lays on top of him and snores away! His handlers say that this sweetheart of a boy is well on his way to his forever family. "Shiloh is so gentle and loving. At first he seems like a one-person dog, but I could easily see him cuddling up with children. It's been a fun first week with Shiloh, and I'm sure there's plenty more fun in store. He is a swell doggy!"
