Week 7
Sarge is headed out for "parole" this week! He has found a wonderful
family who are sure to love him for all of his days. He will be sorely
missed at the prison. He found his way into the hearts of many.
But, we all wish him the very best in his new hom. Way to go, Sarge!!

Week 6
Sarge had an awesome week. He continues to charm all of the inmates
and staff at the prison and a day doesn't go by that he doesn't receive at
least a million compliments on his wonderful manners and beautiful
appearance. He greeted the two new recruits as if they'd always been
part of his pack and we couldn't have been prouder. He's especially
fond of the newest member of the pack, Bella. What a pair those two
make!

Week 5
Sarge made a lot of progress this week with his leash manners. He
still tugs a little bit here and there, but he made great strides and with a
little more effort, he'll get it. Sometimes it's hard for him to
remember not to pull when people are coming toward him. They're always
telling him how gorgeous and handsome and well-behaved he is. Who
doesn't want to get closer to compliments like that!! This week, Sarge
is still working on sharing his toys with the other dogs...all of the other
dogs. Keep up the good work, Sarge!

Week 4
Sarge is such a gentleman. He definitely has a good sense of what is
proper behavior and what is unacceptable. He is playing very well with
the other dogs now and will only occasionally correct them when they get out
of hand. He is becoming a good teacher to some of the younger pups and
we are just thrilled with the positive direction that Sarge is headed in.
Sarge is more than happy to share his toys with his favorite doggie friends.
This week, his handlers are working on helping him learn to share even when
it may be with someone he is not particularly fond of. Good luck,
Sarge!!

Week 3
Sarge just continues to wow everyone with how quickly he is improving.
HE has been working hard on his sits and stays and improving every day.
But, the most impressive part of his training is that he now plays with all
of the other dogs! In just three weeks, Sarge has faced his fears and
is starting to learn the joys of being part of the pack! He plays off
leash with everyone and although he still has setbacks here and there, he is
becoming a well liked member of the pup family! A few more weeks and
these gorgeous boy is ready to go!

Week 2
Sarge has made incredible strides in the short time that he has been with
us. He quickly became accustomed to the various noises that are par
for the course within the jail and has made friends with every single
officer and staff person who has entered the block. He loves everyone!
He practiced his homework diligently and is now able to allow people and
other dogs into his space without too much worry. But, the best part
is what we saw over the weekend. Sarge is in the program because he
needed to relearn how to be a part of a pack and enjoy the company of other
dogs. When we saw him on Saturday, he was trying his best to play with
Jet in the doggie yard. He wasn't completely sure how to do that, but
Jet was more than happy to keep showing him just how much fun chasing the
green ball can be. It was so wonderful to see him begin to feel safe
enough to interact comfortable with another dog. Way to go Sarge!!

Week 1
Sarge is off to a great start! He spent the first week getting to know
all of the different handlers, as well as the staff. He absolutely
loves to meet people and of course, listen to everyone tell him how gorgeous
he is. He was a little rattled by all of the different sounds so his
handlers started to practice with him right away. They tried out all
sorts of sounds and even recruited other handlers to make noises outside of
the cell to help Sarge settle in. It worked and by the third day,
Sarge was as comfortable as could be. He's already learning to allow
other dogs to pass him without barking at them. This week, his
homework includes letting other into his space. The handlers will
start with simply walking other dogs past Sarge while Sarge feasts on the
yummiest treats available. Then, they'll move on to sharing space
while getting treats. By the end of the week, they hope to have Sarge
sharing his living space (for a few minutes, at least) with the other dogs
in the program. Good luck Sarge. You're already doing great!!
