Week 14
Sadie found her way home for the holidays and started her new life yesterday.  We are so proud of her and all of the progress she made while she was in our care and we wish her all the best with her new family!  Good luck, Sadie!!

Week 13
Sadie experienced some set-backs this week. Loud noises have been bothering her, and she’s not eating like she was before. But, she is drinking her water and taking treats from her handler! She’s also doing well going up and down steps! We’re sure that you’ll come around, little one...after all, you were a “budding felon” last week!  Stay focused, Sadie...we know that you're a star!

Week 12
Sadie had a terrific Thanksgiving!  Her handler gave her some turkey and she absolutely loved it! She also loved the fresh snow! She was dancing, wagging her tail, rolling around – you name it, she was doing it! Although Sadie is still a little wary of Oliver, they are learning to play together freely in the doggie yard!  Sadie is trying to teach him how to play a little more gently and slowly, but surely, Oliver is getting the hang of it.  This could be a very lucky week for our little Sadie.  All of our fingers and paws are crossed that she finds her forever home! Although, her new family will have to accept the fact that they may have a budding felon on their hands.  This week, while Maggie wasn't looking, Sadie ran into her "house" and stole Maggie's favorite bone.  Sadie grabbed it and ran as fast as her little legs would carry her back to her own "house."  But, Maggie was in hot pursuit at this point and she recovered the stolen goods and headed back to her own "house."  The two of them, plus the other two, are constant entertainment for anyone who happens to be on the block when they're out and about.

Week 11
Sadie had another fun week with all of her Eskie pals, plus Tina and Oliver.  She has really become quite a social butterfly.  She had her picture in the paper this week and since then she's had a lot of people show an interest in her.  With any luck, she'll have a home very soon.  What would be even better is if the extra interested would generate homes for her pals Harley, Maggie and Mitzi.  It's time for all of these dogs to have the homes that they deserve.  They've waited so long and the best thing for all of them is to start fresh in a home of their own.  Their good friend Charlie is thriving in his home and the rest of the gang deserves the same wonderful life full of love, companionship and security.  Do you have room in your heart and home for one of these little sweethearts?

Week 10
Sadie made a new friend this week in Oliver.  It was very sweet watching this tiny, white furball romp around the dog yard with big, black, hulking Oliver.  She was an excellent teacher and carefully showed him the proper way to play with a canine friend who is much smaller than you.  She also stepped up her "play game" this week with all of the dogs.  Sadie has definitely found her way back from her traumatic beginnings and is thriving in her new life.  Now, all that's left to complete this terrific story is a home of her own to share with a new family who will love her as much as we do!

Week 9
Nine weeks and not one application for sweet, sweet Sadie!  We can't believe it.  She has made such phenomenal progress in her time at the prison and as also been quite a role model for the rest of the Eskie Brigade.  She has learned all of her obedience skills with ease and is even learning to play nice with the big dogs.  Little Sadie used to have a funny habit of tormenting the really big dogs, but she's developed quite a fondness for them now.  Her very favorite game in the whole world is tug-o-war!  She'll play it inside the cell, out on the tier, over in Harley's cell, out in the doggie yard, over in Maggie's cell...you name the place and she'll be there with toy in paw ready to go!  She's a sweet, little girl with lots of spunk and she's definitely ready to get started on a new life with a family of her very own.

Week 8
Sadie had a superstar moment this week when the Patriot News came to do a story on her and her Eskie pals.  All of her shyness disappeared when she saw the man with the camera.  Her handler said she walked right over to him, posed for the camera and then scooted off to play with her friends some more.  She has almost completely transformed in her time at the prison.  She's gone from being painfully shy to inquisitive, curious and confident.  It has been absolutely remarkable to watch her journey and also to watch her help the others in their struggles.  She's quite a catch!!

Week 7
Sadie a great week filled with successes.  She was thrilled at the arrival of Maggie - one of her old friends from the barn.  She and Maggie and Harley have played together every day and just love each other's company.  In addition to learning all of her basic obedience skills, Sadie has also learned to dance and by is that a sight to see.  Absolutely adorable!!!

Week 6
Sadie is doing great!  She is getting noticeably braver when it comes to meeting new people, especially if she's given the space to meet them on her own terms.  When she feels comfortable, she'll walk right over to you, put her little paws on your leg and look at you with that adorable face and wait for you to rub her head or scratch her ears.  She loves the other small dogs, but the bigger ones tend to stress her out a little bit.  This week she learned to jump on command.  Her handler gives her a little running start and on command, she'll leap into the air and catch the treat that he's holding.  She also gave the agility equipment a whirl this week and had a pretty good time doing so.  She mastered the tunnel and just had a ball hopping over the jumps.  Way to go, Sadie!

Week 5
Sadie had another week full of learning new things and braving her fears.  She is now pretty comfortable approaching people.  It's still on her terms whether or not she'd like you to pet her, but she is really making the effort!  She loves her daily playtime in the yard with Harley and the two of them are like peas in a pod.  She has become very snuggly with her handler and loves to engage with him in games of tug and "find it."  She is turning into quite a little sweetheart now that the world isn't quite so scary all the time.

Week 4
Sadie is doing great!  In the last week, she has begun to approach people on her own more often and the loud noises of the prison are still scary, but not nearly as much as before.  She has begun exploring new friends on her own while dragging her leash along behind her and she has just about mastered the very scary concept of doorways.  She loves being with Harley and they have play dates just about every day.  Sometimes they head out to the yard to play together and sometimes Harley comes over to Sadie's cell for a visit.   Sadie has really come a long way since she first started and is just about ready to start thinking about a home of hr very own!

Week 3
Sadie's pal Harley arrived this week and what a change we've seen.  She and Harley love to play together and Sadie finds more confidence when she's around him.  She has started showing more affection this week toward her handler and taking treats right out of his hands.  She has also discovered the joys of a belly rub!  Of course, now she'd like them all the time, but that's definitely something we can accommodate!  She has really had a great week and with progress like this, she'll find her inner "Mighty Dog" in no time!

Week 2
Sadie took several terrific baby steps this week.  She became very comfortable in her cell and started to relax a bit.  She can have her leash put on and taken off with no trouble at all and she explored some of the toys her handler has for her.  She hasn't ventured into playtime yet, but we're hopeful.  She loves to be out in the yard and tell Honey and Charlotte how small they really are compared to her.  They're kind enough to go along with the game and let Sadie believe that she's 100 pounds and pure muscle.

Week 1
Sadie is off to a great start.  In just one week, she has already made several doggie friends, had her first bath and is accepting being touched.  For a little dog who had such a rough start to life, her progress is fantastic.  Her handler reports that she rarely shies away from being petted anymore and is very interested in the big, crazy world around her.  She has made a friend in Anna Mae, Toby and Charlotte and has a ball running full speed around the dog yard.  The loud noises of daily life at the prison are still a bit scary, but she's coming along and we couldn't be more proud of her!  Keep up the good work, Sadie!!

UPDATE - September 7
This little girl is such a dear!  Sadie will head to the big house on September 8th and we can't wait to start teaching her that life gets better starting now!  She is very sweet, but needs a confidence boost.  Check back often to see how she is progressing during her stay at the prison.  Sadie is a beautiful American Eskimo Dog who is just over a year old and available for adoption through Eskie Rescuers United
