Rocky is a special boy and needs a special touch. He would love a home where he is the center of your universe. In exchange for snuggling and petting him, he will be utterly devoted to you. They simply don't make them any more loyal than Rocky. Once he falls in love, it's forever. He definitely needs a strong leader and someone to continue his training and helphim be an upstanding citizen. Justin       Rufus      Rambo      Joey       Maggie     Cam        Chi Chi       Taavi       Checkers       Nash Week 16 Rocky’s handler reports that “he’s the same old Rocky.”  He's a sweet boy who just needs to find the right Valentine. Rocky made a new friend this week and also helped Joey to become a little bit braver. The two boys took a nice walk together. Rocky practiced his leash skills and manners while Joey practiced being calm and trusting his handlers. Justin       Rufus      Rambo      Joey       Maggie     Cam        Chi Chi       Taavi       Checkers       Nash   Weeks 14 & 15 Rocky’s handlers are happy to say that this sweet boy has warmed up to most of the members of his pack!  That’s a great accomplishment for both the dog and his handlers!  For those of you thinking about adopting Rocky, his handlers say that cats should not be part of his household.  “He doesn’t like cats at all.”  That having been said, “Rocky loves people and he listens very good to his commands.”   You’re coming along, little one!   Field Trip Alert (as told by HOPE volunteer Margie) -  I took Rocky out yesterday.  We first walked thru a neighborhood - I think he really enjoyed that.  We did pass another dog.  I saw them coming before Rocky did and tried to get his attention, but he was just too busy and as soon as he saw the dog he forgot all of his manners.   On the other hand, we continued on to Home Depot and Rocky was amazing.  There were lots of people and noise (clanging, banging and machines going) and Rocky wasn't bothered by anything.  He met lots of people, politely took treats and received pets and at one point was surrounded by 6 or 7 people.  He looked like the local celeb!  He's also great on the leash.  Just need to work on ignoring other dogs.     For information on adopting Rocky, please contact the HOPE Program by CLICKING HERE or calling 717-379-2511.    You can complete an application online by clicking here. His manners are near perfect and there is nothing he enjoys more than pleasing his handlers. Rocky adores the people in his world and is incredibly friendly. He loves to be snuggled and he can't get enough of being nuzzled. scratched and petted in return. Rocky has ambitions of snuggling his way all the way up to the top bunk so he can share his affection equally between his handlers. Becuase of his size, Rocky has given it a try once or twice, but his handlers are teaching them that he's much safer on the ground or the lower bunk. His topbunk handler spends quality time with him down low so they can still "hang out" together and that it is fine wby Rocky. Rocky is also getting better with the other dogs in his world. He really likes Jada and is learning to play gently with his smaller friends Taavi and joey. Justin       Rufus      Rambo       Banshee       Jada       Joey       Maggie     Izzy       Chi Chi       Taavi   Weeks 10 & 11 Although Rocky still has his ups and downs with Taavi and Rambo (his handler will parallel walk next to them in the future to gain more trust), he loves being with his female pack mates!  “He and Jada got to play on Christmas, and they had a good time together, playing for hours. Justin       Rufus      Rambo       Banshee       Jada       Petey       Maggie     Izzy       Chi Chi Weeks 3 & 4 Rocky’s handlers continue to compliment him on his training skills.  In fact, “he learned how to roll over very quickly!  He gets better with his commands every day!  He is so smart, that when you tell him to do something, he listens, and does what we ask him to do without hesitation.”  Rocky also had a good time playing with not only his handlers, but the other handlers in the big yard!  “He had fun running back and forth and getting treats from us after doing his tricks.” Rocky can be jealous at times.  One of his handlers reports that “when he’s in the dog runs, and I go to pet the other dogs, he cries and howls.  It’s kind of funny.  When I stop petting the other dogs, and look at him, he’s standing there with his puppy eyes.”  Of course, Rocky is treated to a pet of his own as a result!  This pup also loves playing with his “best buds Jada and Petey in the big dog yard.”  You’re really coming along, Rocky!  Keep up the good work!   For information on adopting Rocky, please contact the HOPE Program by CLICKING HERE or calling 717-379-2511.    You can complete an application online by clicking here. Justin       Rufus       Taz      Rambo       Banshee       Jada       Petey       Maggie     Izzy       Chi Chi Week 2 Rocky spent his second week getting to know the other dogs in the program. “He likes Petey and Maggie so far.” He’s still working on his relationship with some of his remaining pack mates, but his handlers “think they will get along. Rocky does very well with all of his basic skills, plus he now knows his give paw and watch me commands. He also does his leave it very well.” Rocky has a hard time concentrating on his lessons when there are a lot of people around, so he’s been spending some time showing off what he can do out on the block. Even though he’s still adjusting to all the new canines and humans in his world, Rocky has become very attached to his handlers. One of them reports that “he is a very loving dog. He knows all of his commands, and he even knows the name of his toys. In a way, Rocky is like a child because he listens to everything you ask of him.” He also loves to cuddle up to his handlers.
