Week 11
Razor and Oliver have truly taken over the cell block.  Whenever the two of them are out and about, everyone is smiling and it always seems that everyone is a little happier.  Razor has come so far since he first began the program and now he'll be heading home with one of the staff members who has watched him progress from week to week.  Just one more week of brushing up on all of his skills and tricks and then he'll be on his way!

Week 10
Razor has come such a long way since he started the program two months ago.  He was so frightened and defensive of his space when he arrived.  Now, it's like that dog no longer exists.  Razor has gained some much needed confidence so now he can successfully tell the difference between things that are just new to him and things that really do pose a threat to him.  He came to Borders for a visit last week and charmed the crowd with his sweet personality and outgoing nature.  He loved all of the attention and ended up curled up in his foster mom's lap at the end of the event.  We're sure he had a great nap after such a long day of being a social butterfly!

Week 9
Razor is a very outgoing and loveable dog! He loves to chase and wrestle with Cosmo! Their handlers like to just sit back and watch the two of them play! Razor met some new people at the Meet and Greet at Borders in Camp Hill on Saturday! He greeted everyone with a smile...young, middle-aged and old alike! Like Oliver last month, he seemed to gravitate toward the women folk! Everyone who came in contact with him found him adorable and charming! One very small little girl went up to Razor with a tennis ball, and he took it from her very gently! Razor has obviously overcome his issue of not liking long looks from strangers, because he basked in the attention he received on Saturday! He really did his handler proud in a very public environment!

Razor's handler hopes that he finds his forever home soon! Paws crossed, pup!

Week 8
Razor continues to do well! He's not shy about letting his handler know when he has to go out to do his business. Razor has responded to "ah-ah" commands both when he gets a little mouthy and when he gets too excited in the dog yard. He plays well with the other dogs...both big and small! He shared a water dish with Oliver, Cosmo and Lily this week! He loves to play tug-the-rope with the other dogs, but his handler needs to keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't get too rough. Sometimes, Razor will get a little testy, but not often. Again, a simple "ah-ah" will calm Razor down.

Razor still likes to go up to people, but will jump on them when he is overly excited. He will listen to his handler's "four-feet on the ground" command, however! Overall, Razor's handler thinks he is coming along well.  Learn those "ah-ahs" and you'll go far, Razor!

Week 7
Razor is doing very well around people! In fact, he is eager to meet and greet new folks in his world! He's also doing well with not barking! Sometimes he'll give out a woof if another dog starts barking at someone at the fence, but 90% of the time he's a quiet pup!

Razor continues to enjoy the company of the other dogs in the pack! He likes to play with them and the toys in the yard! Sometimes he shows some resource guarding with his toys, but Razor is responding well to the verbal commands from the different handlers to stop this behavior!  You're doing great, Razor!

Week 6
Razor is doing well! He’s giving both paws now, and is becoming eager to meet new people! When he sees a stranger, his handler says in a happy voice, “Who is that, Razor???” The new person is instructed to stay still. His handler gives Razor a treat, and asks the stranger to interact with him. His handler can tell that Razor's becoming more relaxed around new people! "So far so good..this [training] works great!"

Razor also no longer has crate issues! He’s very good with the other dogs in the pack, and has learned to play well with all of them! Razor also loves to play in the snow!  We’re cheering for you, Razor!

Week 5
Razor is getting much better around people! One of the other inmates startled him, and Razor put his head down and just looked at the man. He didn't bark!  Razor and Murphy can play with toys together for a short period of time. Razor sometimes gets protective of his toy when playing tug-of-war with Murphy. His handler gives him verbal correction when this happens, and it works well!  Other handlers took Razor out to the yard this week, and reported that Razor did very well with them! Razor also had no issues going in and out of his crate!  He is such a sweet boy and really learning to be comfortable around all sorts of people.  Keep up the good work, Razor!

Week 4
Razor has been working hard on his commands this week. He’s been making a lot of human friends, and is getting along with the other dogs in the pack! He’s been doing well going out with other handlers, and settling into his crate when he returns to his cell. Razor saw a cat the other day, and got excited, but quickly settled down. Now, birds are a different story...he gets REALLY excited when he sees birds! Razor’s handler says that he works best when receiving a lot of tender loving care!

We hope someone out there is waiting in the wings to give that to you, Razor!

Week 3
Razor is doing wonderfully! He did bark at two strangers while on-leash on separate occasions. After his handler instructed the strangers not to stare at or say anything to Razor, he immediately stopped barking, went over for a sniff and wagged his tail! Razor is starting to approach people without reaching, as long as they don’t startle him or stare at him. He’s getting better at accepting the stares, however!

Razor’s handler called him away from the fence one day, and made him do a few commands before giving him a treat and releasing him. He’s listening to his handler pretty well! Razor’s now going up and down steps, which at first was a VERY scary prospect for him! He’s getting better with his commands, including immediately stopping his “mouthing” during play time when instructed to do so!

Razor’s learning to go into his crate without a treat. Sometimes his handler has to gently guide him to the crate, but then he goes in without a problem! Razor's also been known to cry a little when his handler leaves their cell.  You’ve made progress in just a few short weeks, little one! We’re proud of you!

Week 2
Razor's has quickly warmed up to his handler! Razor took all of his toys out of his crate one at a time one day, and played with them for hours! He did take a break from his fun with the toys...to give his handler a kiss!

When the other dogs come close to Razor, he goes into a "play bow." He and Maggie have become fast friends! She was very excited to see Razor, and he showed all of the right signs of wanting to play. Their handlers decided to introduce them, with great results! Razor was a charmer! He communicated nicely with Maggie, and they romped around together with free abandon!

Razor doesn't like people staring at him when they approach him or sit and pet him. He voices his disapproval, but settles after he has had his say. After only a short time, Razor's handler has fallen in love with this pup! He recognizes what areas need his attention so that Razor can find his forever home. He's confident that Razor will do well in the program!

We think that you will too, Razor!

Week 1
Razor is off to a pretty good start.  For such a shy boy, he's already given a few kisses to his new handler and taken a nice walk with another handler.  He had so much fun running around in his new doggie yard.  He couldn't believe how big it was!!  Next week, he'll be meeting the other dogs in his class, working on his manners and building his confidence.  Good luck, Razor!

UPDATE - 12-20-08
Razor is a sweet boy who is a little on the shy side.  He's headed to the big house on December 22nd to pick up some basic manners and confidence and then he'll be ready to go!  He is a handsome, two year old English Setter mix who is available for adoption through Above and Beyond English Setter Rescue.  Stay tuned...
