Week 8
Mimi had a surprise "parole" this week. She went for a home visit and
it was a match made in heaven. Mimi headed home over the weekend to
settle in with her new family and her "parolee" brother, Oliver. The
two are getting along as though are long lost friends. Good luck,
Mimi!!

Week 7
Mimi’s handlers say that she’s “a great dog. She listens to all of her
commands, and her pulling while on-leash has almost stopped. Mimi is also
learning how to stay when we throw her toy.” This girl continues to regain
her girlish figure. The fact that Mimi’s handlers have been taking her out
for daily runs outside has helped with both her weight and her stamina (she
can run for longer periods of time now). “All around, she will make a great
pet.” The great news is that Mimi went to her forever home over the weekend!
She also has a very special buddy in her life…sweet Oliver, another recent
parolee from the program, is now her brother! Enjoy your new family, Miss
Mimi!

Week 6
Her handlers report that “Mimi is doing great. She picks up on things really
fast and will grasp everything within just a few days with patience.” She’s
still working on her “roll over” command, but her handlers know that she’s
in the beginning stages of this command, and are confident that she’ll
master it in the upcoming week. Mimi loves her toys, and “plays very, very
well with them. She will now fetch a ball when we throw it to her, and will
drop it at our feet for a treat. Mimi especially likes to jump into the pool
to retrieve her ball. She loves the pool and will ‘snorkel’ for treats even
if there are none there.” Silly girl! We know that your handlers’ patience
will bring you a forever home, sweet Mimi!

Week 5
Mimi’s handlers say that “she continues to impress us in her 4th week in the
program. We are very, very proud of how she is picking up on everything we
teach her.” She continues to enjoy the exercise program that her handlers
have initiated, and continues to lose some of those extra pounds she had
when she entered the program as a result! Mimi gets along with all of the
other dogs, but she has a soft spot in her heart for Sky. In fact, her
handlers report that she seems to know that he has some weaknesses and “is
very gentle with him.” Mimi loves playing tug of war and fetch, while
learning and obeying the rules each week. Everything about Mimi is a gold
star.”

Week 4
“Mimi is doing great. We are so proud of how she is progressing with her
behavior cues and manners. She is a smart dog. Sometimes, she can be
stubborn, but she gets it.” Mimi has been working with other handlers in the
program, and is listening to them as well! Her handlers are also seeing that
she gets plenty of daily exercise. “Mimi is losing weight fairly quickly.
She gets tired and wants to lay down after five minutes in the dog yard, but
that’s to be expected. Her endurance will increase.” This pup has also
figured out that if she hops up on one of her handler’s beds in the middle
of the night, he’ll let her stay there “even though space is limited. She
manages to curl up into a ball and squeeze into whatever space is available.
Mimi is loveable with a great temperament towards people and other dogs.
Whatever home she ends up in will be very lucky to have Mimi.”

Week 3
Her handlers report that “in her second full week, Mimi continued to make
great strides with her behavior cues and overall manners. She also learned
her shake command.” Patience and persistence is all she needs and she is
getting it on a daily basis.” They train and play in fifteen minute
intervals, using the things she loves most (balls, kongs, rope toys and
treats). “We are very surprised that Mimi was given up because she is such a
sweet and loving dog.” In addition, Mimi is beginning to find her
girlish figure again. She runs for 20-30 minutes every morning and
evening with one of her handlers and it is helping her to shed some of her
extra weight. She'll be slimmed down and ready for a home in no time
at all!

Week 2
Mimi made a lot of progress with her behavior cues and politely walking on a
loose leash during her first full week in the program. “She still needs to
master them, but she is a very, very fast learner. Mimi has also made
significant progress with her stays. She has gone from never to half the
length of the dog run. She is also catching onto the rules of tug of war.
She understands out and knows to sit politely to get it back.” Mimi and
Buddy got into a little tussle during training class last week, so their
handlers spent the weekend working on their relationship, and “they’re now
friends.” They even got to spend some fun time in the doggie pool together.
Their handlers got them into it by luring them with treats, and lowering
them into the water. “They finally went ‘fishing’ for themselves!” You’re
doing great, sweet pup!
Field Trip Alert (as told by HOPE volunteer Susan) - I took
Mimi to Lower Allen Dog Park on Friday for Mimi's first "outing." I wanted
to see what she was made of, so I took her outside the fence where there
were many dogs enjoying themselves, and of course, dogs being dogs, they ran
over to the fence. Some were very happy and others were not. For those that
were not happy to see her, Mimi could have cared less! She was just happy to
be there!
Next, we were off to walk the nature trail. I can honestly say, she is a
delight on the leash! No pulling! It was great! During our walk, we
encountered several children along the way. Once again, she came through
with flying colors. Loved the kids and they loved her! After making new
friends, she decided it was time for a drink of water, so off to the water
we go! After much splashing and a little drinking, we were off to our next
adventure....climbing (or attempting to) trees! I have never met a dog as
obsessed with staring up at and attempting to climb into trees. She must
have at one time chased something up a tree and has never forgotten!
All in all, I feel she is one very well rounded dog and will make anyone a
GREAT dog! I look forward to being able to work with her.

Week 1
After only three days, Mimi’s handlers have already fallen in love with her!
Since she’s still finding her niche in her new environment, and it was so
hot, Mimi’s training was kept to a minimum. Her handlers worked on her
walking in a heel position and her sits. “She still needs improvement in
both, but she is getting better with each walk we take her on. Mimi loves to
play tug of war, and does so nicely. She already knows her “out” command.”
This pup is a very personable gal. “She is very people and dog friendly.”
Even when the other dogs in the program bark at her, she pays them no never
mind. “She is a beautiful dog with a great temperament and she wants nothing
more than to be loved.” A great report for your first week, little girl!
