ADOPTED!!!

UPDATE 5/6/07
Merrick has finally hit the jackpot!!  This weekend he went to his truly forever home where he will be adored for years and years to come.  We are so happy for him.  If ever there was a boy who deserved a second chance, this is him.  Way to go, Merrick!  Good luck!!!!

UPDATE 4/19/07
Well, Merrick is having a ball at doggie daycare where he is staying until he finds his true home.  He is loving his time with the girls at the shop and has lost track of all of the new doggie friends he has made.  If you are interested in Merrick and would like to meet him, please make an appointment with Animal House by calling Sharon at 717-737-4300.

UPDATE
Sadly, Merrick has been returned by the family who adopted him.  He tried his best, but he just wasn't who they were looking for.  So, he is waiting patiently for another second chance.  Merrick is an absolutely wonderful dog!  He is mild mannered, great with all types of people from big to small and old to young, absolutely adores the company of other dogs and was a star in his training classes.  Take a look at that gorgeous face and a moment to read his journal from his time in the prison.  Maybe Merrick is just who you've been waiting for!

Week 8
Well, all of that paw crossing certainly gave Merrick just the extra boost of good luck he needed this week.  Merrick has been adopted and will be heading to his new home next week.  Good for you, Merrick.  You deserve it!!!

Week 7
Merrick has all of his paws crossed that this will be the week that hears some good news about a new home.  Merrick has been an absolute star in his training classes and is quite a favorite among the officers on the block.  He loves a good romp in the yard and especially loves spending time with his chew toys.  He's not a big fan of the ice, but he did have a great deal of fun in the snow.  Keep your fingers crossed that this is Merrick's lucky week!

Week 6
Merrick continues to do very well.  We discovered this week that he will tolerate having his nails clipped in exchange for a belly rub and some cheese!  He is so agreeable.  He's been a little sad this week because the temperatures have been so cold.  Merrick loves to romp and play outside and the cold weather put a temporary damper on that this week.  But, we're all sure he'll make up for lost time this week now that the wind has left town.  Merrick has a couple of valentines in his pocket this year and he's keeping his fingers crossed that his forever home is just around the corner!

Week 5
Merrick is such a charming dog!  He spent over three hours on Saturday being a wonderful ambassador for the HOPE Program.  He still has yet to meet a person he wouldn't love to hang out with, but he also discovered quite a love for children.  He had plenty of kisses for babies in strollers and was happy to roll over on his back for a belly rub from every child who passed by.  Of course, he was happy yo accept the belly rubs from grown ups too!  He is such a gem!!

Week 4
Merrick just gets sweeter and sweeter with each passing week.  His biggest struggle is remembering his leash manners, but his handlers continue to work with him every day on that.  He has a ball with the other dogs in the program, has yet to meet a person he couldn't fall in love with and is so well behaved you would think he was the teacher and not the student.  He sure does love his toys!  We keep trying to find him some that will last more than a few days, but that's a tall order.  He had a tire toy with a rope that he thought was really neat.  It's now a flat tire, but he still things it's great fun to play with.  Please come out and visit Merrick next weekend on Saturday, February 3rd from 11-2 at Borders in Camp Hill!

Week 3
Merrick found a new calling this week as a therapy dog...at least for a day.  Our trainer is struggling with a sprained ankle and had to come to class in a wheelchair this week.  Merrick saw his golden opportunity to show everyone just how fabulous he is.  After showering her with plenty of kisses, Merrick decided it would be a great idea to pull her wheelchair to class!  He was a natural.  He listened to the commands of his trainer while he was working and stopped when asked.  He looked so proud when we arrived at the training room.  Who would have thought that this boy had such hidden talents.  Get ready to come out and visit Merrick on February 3rd when he heads to Borders in Camp Hill.  He is still waiting patiently for his forever home and they just don't come any sweeter than this guy!!

Week 2
Merrick is really learning a great deal!  When he first arrived at the prison he couldn't help himself from jumping up on all of his new friends.  In just two short weeks, he is now perfectly content to sit and wait patiently for people to come to him for pets and smooches.  It is such a joy to watch this boy begin to discover the wonderful dog he was meant to be.  It's hard to believe that no one has snatched him up already.  His handlers have given him the nickname "Patch" and it really seems to suit him.  We're all keeping our fingers and paws crossed that Merrick will soon find his perfect match!  Is it you?

Week 1
Merrick is making friends everywhere he goes.  He is so friendly and easy going.  His handlers report that he has wonderful house manners and is perfectly comfortable to head into his crate and rest while they are away at work.  This boy is just about as sweet as they come.  Are you looking for a new best friend?  If so, this might just be the boy for you!

NEW UPDATE
Merrick has made quite an impression in his first few days!!  He is wonderful in his crate and very well behaved in the cell.  He is very, very friendly to everyone he meets and his handlers are getting to know him and learning what he'll need to work on during his time in the HOPE Program.  He is a handsome, three-year old English Setter mix who is available for adoption through Above and Beyond English Setter Rescue.  Stay tuned for next week's update.
