Week 8
Mack said his goodbyes this week to the myriad of friends he has made during
his stay at the prison. Everyone adored him and he will be missed.
But, it's on to better days now with his new family. He has truly hit
the jackpot and we all wish him the very best!

Week 7
His handlers report that Mack continued to go over all of his basic commands
this week, and that he knows them like the back of his paw! He'll even do
them without treats! He continues to listen very well to the other handlers
in the program. "We try to have different people take him out and do basic
commands." His handlers are still "surprised how well Mack can run and play
with other dogs with three legs!" Of course, Oliver is still his best buddy!
Last week, Mack's handlers said that he's ready for his forever home. We're
happy to report that this pup will be going there next week! We're so proud
of you for all that you've achieved in such a short time, Mack! Your prison
family will miss you, but we know that you'll thrive in the family who has
embraced you as their very own!

Week 6
"This week, Mack got to play in a little snow. He would put his nose in it,
and then take off running. He'd stop, and do it all again!" In addition to
working on his basic commands this week (which Mack has "down with no
problems"), his handlers taught him a new lesson. While outside, they took
him off-leash, just to see what he would do. He would run around, but would
come right back to his handlers when they called to him. They then walked
around, and Mack would walk right with them...even if there were other dogs
around! Good boy, Mack! Although this pup has no issues with any of the
other dogs in the program, he and Oliver have become the best of playmates.
"Mack is ready go to that place he calls home."

Weeks 4 & 5
Mack has been doing "very well" being alone during the day! Of course, he'd
rather be meeting new people on the block...he's a social boy! Mack has no
issues with any of the other dogs in the program. "We did some walking with
Mack and Molly, and it went very well." He's also an excellent student when
it comes to his homework assignments! Mack loves to go out to the yard and
run. "For only having three legs, he can run pretty fast! If you call to him
when he's running around, he'll come right to you." Mack is pretty laid back
when in his cell with his handlers. "He loves to lay on the bed. Every now
and then we will let him sleep with us. If we tell him 'off,' he'll get down
and go to his crate."
Mack discovered a new favorite toy in the yard this week...a rubber tire.
He loves to let his handlers throw it and then chase it, grab it and run
back as fast as he can. His handlers took this opportunity to work on
teaching him the "out" command and Mack picked up on it right away. He
now gives up his toys whenever asked...especially since he knows that giving
the toy to his handler means another round of fetch! As you can see,
Mack has been adopted! Congratulations to you and your handlers, Mack!

Week 3
Mack learned this week that the doggie yard isn't all about fun...it's also
about training! His handlers take Mack out so that he can run, and then they
call to him to begin his homework lessons. "He's been doing very well with
learning his commands. He's a smart dog, but sometimes he acts like he
doesn't know his tricks without treats." After school, Mack's handlers treat
him to recess! He can get a little rowdy at times, but he calms down
quickly. "It's like he can just flip a switch from play to calm." Mack also
loves to meet new people on the block! This pup really amused one of his
handlers this week. "He was laying on the bed, and I was watching Animal
Planet. I was watching a dog show, and when they started barking, Mack
jumped down and sat right in front of the TV. I bet he sat there for a good
5 minutes, turning his head from side to side. It was really funny to see!"
You're doing great, Mack!

Week
2
Mack is feeling much more comfortable staying by himself in his cell! His
handlers continued to work with him to overcome his anxieties this week,
"and he's doing very well." Mack's leash walking is getting better, as is
his tendency to jump on people. Although he's still getting to know the
members of his pack, he's been a polite boy when he meets his canine tier
mates. This pup loves his time in the yard, but when he's ready to go
inside, he'll "go and get his leash and bring it to me." Silly boy! "Mack
got his first bath this week, and he didn't mind it at all. He was trying to
lick the water from the sprayer. Overall, Mack is a sweetheart, and a very
loving dog. He's always looking to please his handlers." We're proud of you,
Mack!

Week 1
Mack's first couple of days at the prison, admittedly, "have been rough for
him." His main issue is his fear of being alone when his handlers go about
their day. He's fine "as long as someone is in the cell with him, he's quiet
and calm. He is a smart dog. When you call to him, he'll come right to you."
His handlers worked on his sit, down and stay commands this week, and Mack
did quite well with the tasks! His handlers also report that he loves
meeting the folks on the block. Our newbie also got some play time with
Oliver, Shelby and Isis in the doggie yard! Although Mack is still
adjusting, his handlers are doing everything they can to make his transition
into his new world a good one. For now, that's their main goal...that, and
to find him a forever home!

UPDATE - 12/4/10
Mack is a handsome, young boxer who is as friendly as they come.
He headed into the big house today to start a brave new adventure. He
just needs a crash course in the basics and then he'll be all set to go.
Due to a birth defect, Mack is short one leg, but that doesn't slow him down
one bit! Mack is available for
adoption through PA
Boxers.
