Week 8
Luke has headed back into his foster home.  He came as far as he could at the prison and he'll be continuing his training in his Furry Friends Network foster home.  He'll be in excellent hands, but it's still not the same as having a home of your very own.  So, Luke will continue to wait patiently and hope that someone comes along soon who sees the wonderful dog that he is.  Check back for special updates on Luke's progress.

Week 7
Luke is still having a good time.  He doesn't particularly like being left in the cell when his handler heads off to work, but he sure does love it when he gets home!  Then the real fun begins!!  Luke has been continuing his exercise plan and special diet in the hopes of finding his waistline and feeling better about himself in general.  He's not too thrilled about the reduction in treats, but he settle for petting any day of the week!

Week 6
Luke's special diet and exercise plan must be working for him.  The staff and inmates all see an improvement over the last few weeks.  This week, Luke is off to the vet to have his annual check-up.  Last time, our boy weighed in at 78 pounds.  Stay tuned to see how he's progressed with his weight loss plan.  Good luck, Luke!!

Week 5
Luke has been placed on a special diet and a fun, new exercise plan to help him find his boyish figure again.  The whole team of handlers is pitching in and making sure that Luke gets lots of fast paced walks, playtime with the other furkids and limited treats.  Luke hates the last part, but he absolutely loves all of the exercise and we've all noticed a skip in his step that we haven't seen before.  Keep up the good work, Luke!

Week 4
Luke found a new best friend this week and her name is Izzie!  The two of them play like they've been friends for years.  Luke is on a special diet and exercise plan to help him find his waistline again and Izzie is more than willing to step in as his personal trainer.  Luke is such a people dog.  He loves to be around people and soak up all the attention he can get.  He is such a goofy, sweet boy and everyone just adores him.  He and his handlers are working extra hard this week on helping Luke begin to overcome some of his fears.  These include having his ears cleaned, having his nails trimmed and being examined (as if he were at the vet).  Luke has already come a long way with having his paws touched and we look forward to helping gain even more confidence in the weeks to come!

Week 3
Luke truly lives by his own clock!  He loves to decide when it's playtime, when it's mealtime, when it's naptime and, most importantly, when it's belly-rub time!  This week his handlers have been working on gently convincing him to do things according to someone else's clock.  Luke has had his ups and downs with that part of his training.  But, his handlers are convinced that all Luke needs is someone with some persistence who will continue to help him learn that life is a give and take.

Week 2
What a lovebug...and comedian.  Luke loves attention!  He loves to be anywhere where there are treats, belly rubs or any other kind of attention.  He is very laid-back and easygoing.  The only time Luke ever gets his feathers ruffled is when it's time to have his nails trimmed or his ears cleaned.  Then, the baby in Luke comes out.  This week, his handlers will be working on desensitizing him to having his ears and paws worked with.  Luke won't mind too much though.  These exercises are sure to include lots of cheese and extra treats!!

Week 1
Luke is off to a great start and is fast becoming a favorite of everyone on the block.  He is so laid back and mellow that his handlers have nicknamed him "Cool Hand Luke."  It looks as though Matty will be his personal trainer.  Matty is the only dog who inspires Luke to run around the doggie yard.  They have a ball playing together.  Luke is doing very well with his leash manners and his handlers are continuing to put him through the paces with some basic obedience training.  Good boy, Luke!

UPDATE
Luke is a handsome, 3-year old hound mix who will be getting started on October 25th.  He's headed straight for a crash course in doggie manners.  Other than that, this boy is ready and waiting for a home of his own!
