Update - 1-3-11
Sadly, things did not work out as planned for our sweet girl Hope. She is back with her foster family awaiting another turn at the jail or, better yet, a home of her very own. Hope is a wonderful dog who needs a home with lots of energy and lots of structure. Other than that, she just needs a home with people who are willing to kissed, snuggled and loved by a a dog who would love nothing more!

Week 6
Hope’s handlers report that they work on her loose-leash walking skills every day. “When she’s on a 6-foot leash, she’ll still pull, but she does well on a longer one. We can take her off-leash, and she stays right by our sides.” As for her other commands, her handlers say that she knows them well. Hope got a new friend this week. “Her name is Maggie, and they will play for as long and as often as we let them. She is helping Maggie come out of her shell. Hope gets along with all of the dogs in the program. All she needs now is to have a place to call her home. She’s a very loving dog who is always happy and wanting to please us. Hope is ready to get her second chance at life.” Although they will miss her, her handlers are very happy that this sweet girl has found the second chance they were hoping for her! She’s now living with a loving family who is doting on her, and doesn’t mind that she loves rolling around in mud! She’s looking forward to bed privileges with her human sisters, and is just having a wonderful time playing and chasing one of her canine brothers. We’re so happy for you, Hope!

Week 5
Hope worked on her out and give it/drop its this week. Since she loves to play tug of war, her handlers used the game to introduce her to the skills. One of her caretakers reports that “Hope loves to play fetch. She’ll run so fast, it’s almost like she’s running through the air and her feet don’t touch the ground. When she jumps, she reminds me of a deer because of how she runs and leaps.” As much as this pup loves her time outdoors, she calms down quickly after playing. Hope got a special outing this week to see if she’s cat-friendly. Her handlers were happy that “she did well from what we were told. She didn’t show any aggression towards the cat, she just wanted to play with it.” She also knew to put on the brakes as soon as the cat hissed at her.  Hope’s handlers’ greatest wish for this sweet girl is for her to be in her forever home. “She is just an adorable dog. We know that she’ll make a family a joy to have…hurry and adopt Hope!” Did your handlers get their wish, Hope? Stay tuned!

Week 4
Hope’s handlers continued to work on her walking on-leash and her down commands this week. The latter one is a struggle for her, but her handlers will find a way to help her along with this task. Hope is fine off-leash because she’ll easily walk with her handlers and will make sure they are in her sight. This pup also has no problem being crated. Training aside, this girl loved “meeting some new friends in the program this week. Hope is always looking for someone new to play with her and pet her. She is a very smart and loving dog that needs to find a family who will give her the love she always needed.”

Week 3
Hope’s handlers report that it was another good week for their pup. She met Leah this week, and they played well together. Her handlers will introduce Hope to more dogs as she progresses in the program. Hope continued to work on her basic training this week. “She is very intelligent and learns very quickly. We’ve only had her for three weeks and she has made tons of progress already. When she first arrived in the program, she had no focus whatsoever. She’s learned with the ‘watch me’ command how to refocus again.” Hope is also a very loving dog. “She loves attention, and when she wants it, she’ll sit right in front of you and wag her tail a mile a minute until we pet her. She is such an adorable dog. How could anyone say no to adopting her into their family?”

Week 2
Hope’s handlers say that this pup seems to have become very attached to them, and we think from their report that the feeling is mutual. Her handlers continue to work on Hope’s walking on-leash training every day, and “it’s getting better.” As for her personality, “she loves to play, and will settle down with you after play is over. It’s funny watching Hope run around the yard chasing her rope toy. I don’t think she knows how to play with other dogs yet, but she doesn’t have any issues with them.” Her handlers also report that she loves to sit with them, but “she can be a bed hog. Hope is a very loving and smart dog. She will make a family very happy someday.”

Week 1
Hope’s handlers report that “her first week in the program was full of training and fun.” At first, this pup wasn’t too sure about her new surroundings, and just wanted to be by herself. “After she got to know us (her handlers), she became very friendly around everyone. Hope has no problem with any of the dogs in the program. Even when Taz barked at her, she didn’t bother with him.” This pup loves her time in the big doggie yard behind the block. “We make sure that she gets a lot of playtime and training time. One day, she met a baby rabbit in the yard, and she didn’t even bother it. She is a smart dog, and will do anything to please us. Once Hope gets her commands down, she will make someone a happy owner.” One caution, however. Her handlers lovingly report that “it’s funny when she starts playing, because she snorts like a pig.” What a first week you’ve had, little girl! Keep up the good work!

UPDATE 7-30-11
Hope headed off to jail today. She has been waiting such a long time for her turn and it's finally here.  Hope is an active little girl who needs manners and plenty of exercise, but after she gets those two things she'll be more than ready for a home of her very own.  She is an adorable, two year old Pit Bull who is available for adoption through Phoenix Rescue Group.  Stay tuned for next week's update.
