Week 7
Homer made some good improvement this week and worked hard on his basic commands. But, the prison environment has proved to be a little too busy for this fella'. He headed out on extended leave this week to a quieter foster placement while he waits for a home of his own. Homer is a great dog and will love someone completely once they decide he's the one for them. Here's hoping he finds his perfect match soon!

Week 6
Homer’s handlers say that he’s doing very well with his sit, lie down, watch me and give paw commands!  He’s still is on a learning curve when it comes to being around the other dogs, but his handlers report that he’s doing better at that as well!   “Homer is very energetic and playful.  He is going out in the dog yard, and running circles around it.”  When training and playing are done for the day, “Homer loves to just chill in the bed with you and sleep at your feet for the night.”  We offer a gentle warning to anyone who is interested in adopting this sweet pup…”he’s kind of a bed hog.”  We HOPE you find happy dreams in a forever bed, Homer

Week 5
Homer continued to make progress not only with his commands, but his affection toward his handers this week!  “He opened up big time around us.  Every time we come back from work or meals, Homer gets very excited and runs around the cell.”  This pup is still getting to know the other dogs in the program, but he loves the attention he’s getting from his human friends on the block.  “He always wants to be petted by them.”  We HOPE you find forever pets soon, sweet boy!

Week 4
“Homer has progressed a lot over the past week.  He has gotten a lot calmer towards other dogs, including Rambo, and he’s listening better to his basic commands.”  In fact, his handlers gave him gold stars for his sit, give paw, lie down and leave it skills this week!  One of them reports that “Homer loves to sleep right beside you.  He’s always excited to see you.  He jumps in the bunk with me, lays on my lap and starts licking my face every afternoon when I get back from work.”  Here’s to a forever person or people to snuggle with, sweet boy!

Week 3
Homer’s handlers report that he is starting to open up a little since he first arrived at the prison.  This pup is starting to walk on a loose leash and in addition to the commands he learned last week, is “catching on fast” to his pray, sit pretty and watch me skills.  Homer does have a tendency to mouth his handlers because of his age, but they’re happy to report that he does it less often because they ignore this behavior.  You’re doing great, Homer!  Keep up the good work!

Week 2
“Homer is a very quick learner.”  This week, his handlers taught him to sit, lay down and shake.  He’s also meeting new people every day and “gets along with everyone.  He is very energetic and loves to run around.  Homer also continues to love lying in bed with one of his handlers.”  We’re proud of you, sweet boy!

Week 1
Understandably, Homer isn’t quite sure of himself yet in his new environment.  His handlers report, however, that “he is a very smart dog.  After just three days, he knows how to sit, give paw and lay down.  Homer is people and dog friendly.  He likes Jackie and Checkers.”   This pup also has already earned bed privileges.  “He loves to cuddle in the bed with you, and loves attention!”  We’re happy to hear you are  adjusting well, Homer!

UPDATE 4-7-12
Homer will have his first day of HOPE school tomorrow. This little firecracker was found as a stray during the chilly days of January. He needs all of the basics and then some. This fella' hasn't had much training but he more than makes up for that with his silly, swet personality. He is a two year old Chocolate Lab mix who is available for adoption through CPAA .  Stay tuned for next week's update.
