Week 10
In this pup’s last week at the prison, his handlers reflected on their time
with him. “He is a very loyal and loving dog who will be a great pet for his
adoptive family. We will miss him very much, and have enjoyed having him in
our lives. We will always remember his funny antics…like burying himself
under his blanket, carrying around the biggest rawhides available to him,
and rolling over to show his belly when we get home from work. We wish him
and his new family the best, and are thankful for the opportunity to work
with him.”

Week 9
This was Claude’s 9th week in the program, and his handlers report that “he
is doing all of his commands extremely well. He also has his sit/stay recall
up to about 50 feet now.” Claude’s handlers got to see a different side of
their pup this week. “The other night, we had him out in the dog yard, and
he found the fountain of youth. He acted like a puppy running and chasing
us. He rolled over when we got to him.” Claude will be going to his forever
family over the Memorial Day weekend! His handlers will really miss him, but
they say that his adoption is “great news because Claude deserves it.” All
of us in the HOPE program think that you deserve it too, little boy!

Week 8
After 8 weeks in the program, his handlers report that “there’s really not
much else to say about Claude. He’s mastered all of his homework
assignments. Unfortunately, he still reacts to other dogs.” It’s
inconsistent, and his handlers really feel that it’s a fearful reaction.
They are committed to helping Claude through this issue, and although they
are “hoping for a significant breakthrough, we believe that Claude is who he
is for better or worse. With the exception of that, Claude is an excellent
dog. He is very loving and loyal, and will most certainly make a great pet
for someone who has no other dogs.” We have very good news! Claude has found
a family who is adopting him for better or for worse! This pup will be
spending a couple more weeks at the prison, and then he’s off to his forever
home! Congratulations to your handlers, and to you, Claude!

Week 7
In his 7th week in the program, Claude continued to shine when it came to
his training skills! He was a little hesitant about the new dogs who entered
the program in the last few days, but with his handlers’ help, he became
less fearful of them. “His tolerance remains an issue, but that is the only
one. We’re hoping that one day soon, he’ll be okay. Other than that, Claude
is excellent! We love having him around and laughing at his antics. He
started on a new rawhide that’s about his size, and it’s funny to watch him
carry it around.” We’re rooting for you to find your forever home soon,
Claude!

Week 6
Claude’s handlers report that he continues to do well with his training.
They put him through the paces by reviewing everything from his recalls to
his loose-leash walking. “He’s been great!” Although Claude’s handlers are
still a little hesitant to let him off-leash around the other dogs, they are
able to walk by them, with no reaction from this pooch. Way to go, Claude!

Week 5
“Claude is doing great during his fifth week here. He continues to do well
with all of his commands, and there weren’t any issues with the other dogs
this week, except for when Kobe first came here. Now, they pay each other no
never mind.” Good boy, Claude! His handlers noticed this week that he can
get a little “spooked” when he hears loud noises. They were crushing up some
“soups,” and Claude jumped up on one of his handler’s lap for protection.
You’re safe with your handlers, little boy! This pup also went on an outing
over the weekend, “and he did great! He even surprisingly ignored the family
cat. Although we will still need to work on his tolerance of other dogs, we
think that Claude is ready for his forever home.”

Week 4
Claude had some issues with a couple of his pack mates this week, even
though he previously was fine with them. Since this is one of the reasons
that Claude is in the program, his handlers will continue to work with him
to help him realize that being a part of the pack is a good thing! Claude
worked on his command skills, and he did well with them! He still had
trouble at times with longer distance down/stays, but we know that he’ll get
the hang of that as well! Even with the setback with the other dogs, his
handlers gave him rave reviews in some areas of his training. “He listens
very well, and he is really picking up on the non-verbal commands.” Keep
adjusting, little boy! You’re doing just fine!

Week 3
Claude’s handlers report that after three weeks in the program, “he
continues to do very well with his homework assignments. He is even catching
on to non-verbal hand signals.” This pup’s handlers put him through the
paces of his touch, come/recall, sit/stay, wait, out of sight and walking on
loose leash commands, and are pleased with his progress! He even shook his
handlers’ hands this week! They were also amused that Claude “has found a
new favorite place to lie down…under the bed and on top of the laundry.”
Keep finding the comfort your handlers bring you, Claude!

Week 2
Claude had a big week getting to know his new cellie AND getting to know a
couple of his pack mates. He adjusted to the new person in his life with no
problem. As for the other dogs, Claude’s still not too sure about playful
dogs when they’re in the adjoining runs at the back of the block. He did
well, however, being in the same dog run as Grant while both were on-leash.
“They paid each other no mind.” Later that day, Claude and Toby had some
time in the big yard together, “and they seemed fine. They even sat beside
each other and received treats.” Since one of the reasons Claude is in the
program is to help him work on his pack manners, those are really big steps
for this little one! As for his skills training, his handlers report that
“Claude is doing great with his commands and he even rolls over. He is still
feeling things out, but he is getting more comfortable each day.”

Week 1
After just three days at the prison, his handler reports that Claude is
“coming around every day. I haven’t really been drilling him with an
overwhelming amount of training because of this.” Claude already knows his
sit, stay, wait, down and come commands, but he’s only consistent in
performing these tasks when treats are involved. He also already feels
comfortable enough to “protect” his new space by barking whenever someone
comes to the door. His handler will work with Claude to minimize this
behavior. “The funniest thing that I’ve noticed that he does so far is
whenever I let him out of his crate, when I get back he comes out to greet
me, then proceeds to pull out two rawhide bones and places them in the
middle of the cell.” What a report for your first few days, Claude! Keep up
the good work!

Claude is heading to the big house tomorrow to start his training. This
little guy has a lot of potential and just needs some time to relearn the
