ADOPTED!!!

Week 11
In their last week with Chloe, her handlers are happy to report that she continued to love meeting new people and showed the new-found confidence that they have brought out in her personality during her time with them. Chloe got to spend some time in the great outdoors over the past few days. One of her handlers reports that “she loves to go outside, and is so cute when she runs. She always looks at you to see if you are watching her, and as soon as she knows that you are, she runs full speed back to you. I’m really going to miss her when she leaves. She really is a great girl!”

Just two weeks ago, Chloe attended a Meet and Greet at Pet Valu at the West Shore Plaza. A woman came in with some of her family members, and she immediately fell in love with her. She spent a lot of time with Chloe, while the other members of her clan shopped. Chloe seemed to sense that this might be the Mom who would take care of her for the rest of her life because as she was leaving, Chloe stood up and looked at her as if to say, “why aren’t you taking me with you?” Chloe joined her new Mom, human brother and sister, and canine sister this weekend! The HOPE volunteers who were at the event got to experience the love-at-first-sight between Chloe and her new family, and are thrilled for her! Her handlers did you proud, sweet girl! Enjoy your new family!

Week 10
Chloe’s handlers say that “she is doing very well. She continued to meet different people and the other dogs with no problems.” Chloe still won’t play with her canine friends, however. “That’s not to say she won’t. It’s just like she doesn’t know how. But, Chloe is getting better at trying [to have fun with her pack mates] every day. She gets along good with Nyla and Leah.” You’ve already mastered going from being a very shy girl around people to being a social butterfly on the tier, Chloe. We know that you’ll master knowing that other dogs can be your playmates as well, sweet girl!

Week 9
“Chloe has been doing very good. She continues to love meeting new people and has been going right up to them. She sits and stands by them just waiting to be petted. She loves attention, and is very affectionate.” Chloe spent some time walking around with Oscar, Hope and Leah this week, and got along with them pretty well! Good girl, Chloe!

This pup attended a Meet and Greet at the West Shore Plaza Pet Valu on Saturday. We’re sure that her handlers were happy with the report the HOPE volunteer gave them after the event! Although it took Chloe a little while to get used to being out of the prison and into a pet store, she was a sweetheart the whole time she was there. She got along with people of all ages, and literally sat and watched to see who would come into the store to give her the next pet. No one could resist her soulful eyes, and obliged her with the loving she so loves and deserves. Chloe also showed a lot of curiosity in the dogs she met at the event, and did well with them. She especially took a shine to HOPE parolee Tyler and his canine brother Calvin. Maybe she was trying to get some tips from Tyler on how to find a forever home. By the end of the event, Chloe was sitting up with eyes at half-mast. It was a big day for this sweet girl, but HOPEfully you’ll have your forever home in the near future, Chloe!

Week 8
Chloe’s handlers are happy to say that she “is getting better and better. She loves going up to people and meeting them. The other night, she had to go up to everybody on the tier before coming to our cell for the night.” Chloe has been very good about not going into “submission mode” while receiving a pet from her fans on the block. “She walks up to them and sits for them to pet her, or stands while they pet her.” Chloe got to spend some time with Oscar this week, and “she did very good” with him, and wasn’t shy about telling him when his play got a little too much for her. Her handlers report that “she seems like she doesn’t really know how to play (with other dogs) yet.” Since Chloe started her life in a puppy mill, that’s not surprising. But, we know that with her handlers’ gentle guidance she’ll learn that being a member of her pack is a good thing. You’ve come such a long a way in your journey through the program, Chloe, and we’re proud of you little girl!

Week 7
Chloe’s handlers report that she continued to progress this week! “She does fine with meeting new people, and when she does, I have them go under her, not over the top of her head. If she goes into her submit mode, I have them stop petting her until she gets back up. It seems to be working.” Chloe loves her time in the doggie pools in the yard! “She always comes back tired.” As you know by reading the handlers’ journals, there is some wildlife in the yard behind the block. Last week, Chloe was taken with a rabbit, this week, she spotted a groundhog. “She wanted it so bad, that she even barked at it. I’ve never seen her like that.” Of course, her handler made sure that she didn’t get the groundhog.

Chloe attended her first meet and greet at the Adoption Day hosted by the Tractor Supply Co. in Carlisle this past Saturday. What a good little girl she was! True to her handlers’ words, she loved meeting all of the people who came through the door! We also learned that Chloe is a “leaner.” The closer she can get to you, the better in this girl’s eyes! She enjoyed exploring the store with the HOPE volunteers, and was very good when she was told “come, Chloe” while on-leash. Chloe’s favorite part of the day was when a little girl had her arm around her, and our pup was leaning into her. It was truly a Kodak moment.  Chloe...we know that someone will love you as much as we do!

Week 6
Chloe’s handlers report that her attention to her lessons is still a work in progress. “She has days when she listens very well, and she has days when she doesn’t listen at all.” Her cellies will continue to work with her so that her training can progress according to plan. Chloe chased a rabbit in the big doggie yard one evening this week. One of her handlers said that if she “wasn’t so chubby, she would have gotten it. It was funny watching her try. She does move pretty well for a big girl.” We’re sure with more yard time you’ll regain your girlish figure, Chloe! In the meantime, concentrate on your lessons so that you can find your forever home!

Week 5
Chloe’s handlers say that her training is “going pretty good so far. She has been doing really well with her recalls and sits, but her downs and stays are something we are still working on.” This pup is also finding her place in the pack one dog at a time. “Chloe does well with Sky, and she even played with him for a bit the other night. We introduced her to Buddy, and sometimes it was good for her, and sometimes it wasn’t. But, she is coming around to the other dogs. It will just take time.” You’ve had so many adjustments in the last few weeks, Chloe. Keep working on your confidence, little girl.

Week 4
Chloe’s handlers report that although she is still learning what it’s like to have homework assignments in her life every week, “she has been doing well.” She still has to learn the fine art of her stays, but for the most part, she’s getting the grasp of her sit and down commands. Her handlers gave her great grades on her report card this week in one area. “Chloe does very well off leash, and when you call her, she comes running to you, and rolls on her back when she gets back to you.” Even though she may not be the easiest dog her handlers have trained because of her shyness, they have nothing but good things to say about her personality! “I had her in the doggie yard and we played for a little bit. She’s so sweet and loves attention.” Your handlers will work diligently to help you overcome your fears, and to help you find your forever family, sweet Chloe.

Week 3
With some of our dogs, it is one paw forward and two paws back. Although Chloe is doing better with some of her commands, she has a problem when her handlers correct her. “She just drops to the floor.” Her handlers recognize that her journey through the program is going to be a slow one, but they are up to the task. “She’s very sweet, but submissive.” As you read last week, however, Chloe had a great outing with (HOPE volunteer) Susan, so let’s HOPE that she continues to grow and heal from the scars that brought her to CSI-Camp Hill.

Week 2
Chloe’s handlers are happy to report that “she has been doing better every day.” They are still taking it easy on her training since she’s still adapting, but she worked on her leash walking this week. It still needs some work, but she performed her sit command “most of the time.” Good girl, Chloe! Once she’s really settled in, let the training begin! Chloe and Mimi spent a lot of time outside together this week getting to know one another, and all went well. This pup still isn’t a toy kind of gal. “She just wants to be scratched or rubbed. She is very sweet, loves everyone, and is very affectionate.”

Field Trip Alert (as told by HOPE volunteer Susan):  Last Saturday I had the pleasure of taking Chloe to the nature park at the Lower Allen Dog Park. I made arrangements to meet a friend who had recently adopted a senior dog from the Harrisburg Humane Society.  After each dog had fully checked each other out, off we went for our adventure. The dogs acted like they had known each other all of their lives. Whatever Chloe did, Ginger (the senior dog) had to follow her lead, especially when it came to getting in the yellow breeches creek. Chloe could not get into the water fast enough. She is a great swimmer and thoroughly enjoyed it. I even took off my shoes and went in as far as I could. Next week, I plan to take a retractable leash along so we can go out even further. I even bought water shoes for the event!  Chloe is a sweet, wonderful "velcro" dog. When she looks at you with those beautiful brown eyes, she captures your heart. She is going to make someone a GREAT dog.

Week 1
Chloe’s handlers report that she is “having a tough time” adjusting to her new surroundings. At this point, she doesn’t play with toys, so “it’s hard to motivate her.” That having been said, her handlers have been taking her for a lot of walks, and just letting her get to know them. “She is a sweetheart and she loves attention. We are bonding, and she’ll do fine once she gets adjusted.”

UPDATE 6-18-11
Chloe is off to jail this Sunday. This little sweetheart is a puppy mill survivor and her experience there left some scars.  She needs some structure and consistency to help her feel safe again so she can learn to rejoin the pack and be at peace.  She is an pretty, five year old Lab mix who is available for adoption through Diamond Dog Rescue.  Stay tuned for next week's update.
