ADOPTED!!!

Week 10
Charlotte headed on to greener pastures this week.  She's already taking great naps with her new mom and watching weekend sports with her dad.  This is the life she should have had from the start and we're so excited for her!!

Week 9
Whooppee!!  After lots of training, homework and hard work things are finally paying off for Charlotte.  She was officially adopted this week and will be heading home at the end of net week.  So now, it's time to polish up the last of her skills and have a fantastic feast before getting a final send off from the handlers who have cared for her during her stay at the prison.  She holds a very special place with all of u and we wish her the very best!

Week 8
Charlotte had a fantastic training week.  She's getting along with everyone nowadays and really showing her true colors as a well-mannered, quiet leader of the pack.  She has been so sweet to take the more fragile pups under her wing and help them overcome their tragic pasts, despite the fact that she is still overcoming her own.   We really hope that this will be the week for Charlotte.  Fingers and paws crossed...

Week 7
Charlotte is a very special, very sweet girl.  She loves to play the role of protector and takes her responsibility of training and helping to socialize Anna Mae and Toby very seriously.  She loves to play and is just a doll to be around.  We love her more with each passing week and can't wait to find a home for that will love her as much as we do!

Week 6
Charlotte had another great week.  She has really made quite a friend in Toby and lets him take naps with her in her crate, share her rawhides and play, play, play.  She's getting braver and braver with each passing day and now regularly approaches strangers to say hello.  It's wonderful to see her really starting to trust the world around her and we just so happy for her.  She's doing great in all of her studies and is at the top of her training class.  She's a fabulous girl just waiting for the right family to bring her home.

Week 5
Charlotte is so sweet.  She has really taken on the responsibility of caring for Toby and Anna Mae and making sure that they are safe and comfortable.  She likes to visit with them on the cell block and alwys has her on them in the doggie yard to make sure they're doing alright.  She's really found her stride with meeting new people and now prances at the opportunity.  She even shows off her "helicopter tail" to anyone who's entertaining the thought of stopping by for a visit.  She has learned a truckload of tricks because she is so very bright and everyone who meets her is completely won over by the end of their visit.  Now all she needs is a home and someone to love her!!

Week 4
Charlotte is one in a million.  Not only is she facing her own fears and learning to find her way, she's helping others too!  Charlotte is a beautiful girl, inside and out.  She loves to snuggle, thoroughly enjoys a good romp in the doggie yard and she's getting braver each week with turning strangers into friends.  She's still a bit shy when it comes to meeting new people, but you can see all over her face that she's so willing to keep trying.  Now for the inner beauty...this sweet girl with the terrible past has taken both Anna Mae and Toby under her wing.  She and Anna Mae play together in the yard and she brings out Anna's inner dog.  As for Toby, Charlotte has had her eye on him since he arrived on Thursday.   Toby was frightened of just about everything and Charlotte got right to work showing him the ropes.  In the doggie yard, she keeps a close eye on him to make sure that he's alright at all times.  She just adores him and loves to take care of him.  There is a sweetness in Charlotte that goes beyond words.  She is truly one in a million!

Week 3
Charlotte is coming along beautifully!  In just three weeks, she has already stared down some of her biggest fears and let them know who's boss.  She is getting much more comfortable with strangers, although she's still a bit shy.  She and Steven had a fun week playing together before he headed on his way.  Charlotte took a trip of her own this week when she visited the residents of the Alzheimer's Unit of Manor Care Nursing Home this week.  She was a huge hit, especially when she would roll over at their feet and wait for belly rubs.  She was a perfect guest and proved that life as a therapy dog might be just the thing she was meant to do!  After that, it was on to Borders where she gave out several kisses to the customers, before settling in under the table for a well-deserved nap.  She's a lovely girl and despite the life she had, she's more than ready to start fresh and begin again.

Week 2
Like any good three year old, Charlotte is goofy, strong-willed, silly, loving and stubborn --- all at once!  Charlotte's indoor manners are wonderful and she's becoming a fat favorite on the block.  She enjoys meeting most new people and only becomes fearful occasionally.  She is learning to sit and watch staff and inmates walk past to enter the block and she's proving to be quite a people-watcher.  She really seems to enjoy it.  According to her handlers, she just needs a course in self-control and she'll be more than ready to head into her new life.  That seems like easy work for a dog who's had such a hard life.  She's such a sweetheart and we look forward to watching her thrive here at the prison.  She's off to a great start and we see nothing but blue skies ahead of her!

Week 1
Charlotte had a busy first week.  She practiced meeting lots and lots of strangers and by the end of the week, her nerves were beginning to relax.  You can see in her face that she wants to be brave, but sometimes new situations can make her a little shy an wary.  Her handlers will be working with her to build up her confidence over the next several weeks so that she's comfortable in the knowledge that her "people" will always keep her safe.  She had a few good romps in the yard and has proved to be quite a fun playmate.  This week, she'll start getting to know the four-legged members of her new pack.  Good luck, Charlotte!

UPDATE
Charlotte is getting ready to start the program this Thursday, July 24th.  She is a three year old Shepherd/Terrier mix who just needs a little refresher course on her basic obedience, some structure to help her build her confidence and of course, some TLC to help heal the wounds of her past.  She is a beautiful girl and is available for adoption through Francisvale Home for Smaller Animals.  Stay tuned for her updates.
