Week 10
Bianca went to live with her forever family this week! Congratulations,
Bianca! Although we will miss this shy girl with her sweet smile and cute
little "eyebrows," we know that she will be well-loved in her new home!
Week 9
Bianca is still making improvements! She comes out of her crate and is
curious when a stranger comes around instead of trying to hide when someone
new comes to give her a call! Bianca is still a bit timid and stays close to
those who are familar to her, but she's getting better each day! Bianca is
ready for her new home. "She is a faithful dog who listens well and is a joy
to have around. She has a lot of love to give."
Week 8
Bianca is doing very well and has become more relaxed around strangers! She
is still timid, and would rather just watch people and approach her rather
than vice-versa, but she's coming around! Bianca is starting to bark more at
strangers, and "raises her hackles" when someone stares at her. Now that
she's getting more comfortable, her handlers will keep up her training with
new issues that crop up. As with any dog, training is an ongoing
process. Bianca is playing with her toys more and more each day! She
even carries some around with her! She LOVES her red KONG Ball and will
fetch it until her handlers' arms hurt! She is "wonderful...playful and
cute!" She looks thin, but her handlers are keeping her well-fed! "She is
just young and active." Bianca is ready to go to a good home where she "can
run all day." Paws crossed, Bianca!
Week 7
Bianca is doing better each day! Her fear of strangers is changing from
"cowering and shaking" to "watching and a little shaking." Bianca's handlers
limit her direct contact with other people in the block or in the yard as
much as possible. They have her sit and watch when there's a lot of
activity. Bianca now has a new-found curiosity about other people and is
coming around to them slowly but surely! Overall, her handlers say that "she
is a wonderful dog." Bianca loves to play with her doggie companions! As a
matter of fact, running is Bianca's favorite form of play! Although she is
timid, Bianca has no other real issues. She is calm and quiet in her and
handlers' space, and is quite happy in her crate! Bianca is getting ready to
be paroled! All she needs is a loving home with a big yard and "lots of
rawhide!"
Week 6
Bianca is still moving forward with her training! Her handlers have
restricted her contact with strangers to balance out her comfort level.
Although her handlers said last week that Bianca is getting better with her
"stays," she's not too fond of "holding it" when they are out of her sight!
Bianca's handlers have also weaned her off of sleeping with one of them, and
now crate her at bedtime. Bianca doesn't mind her crate, but will give her
handlers a "sad look" when it's time for lights-out.
Bianca loves attention and has no problems interacting with the other
handlers! Although she plays with the other dogs in her pack, she is most
fond of her "boyfriend" Cragger! She'll play with him any chance that she
gets to do so! Overall, Bianca is "really sweet and quiet. You don't even
know she is around sometimes. She shows no sign of aggression. She is just
timid and loveable."
Week 5
Bianca is making improvements, but "she will not be rushed." Bianca still
gets very scared around strangers and will "cower and shake" around them,
but she shows no signs of aggression. When she gets scared, it takes a few
minutes to reset and calm her down. Bianca sometimes barks at the folks who
come to visit her at the fence outside the doggie yard, but "her confidence
is building!" Even though Bianca has her own agenda as far as her training
is concerned, she is now able to hold a "stay" up to about 100 feet! That's
a great accomplishment for this little girl! Her handlers will start to do
"out of sight" stays this week to see how she does with them! Her "sit",
"lie down" and "recalls" are all "good." Her ability to play with the other
dogs is "excellent," and she can't wait to get out into the yard for some
fun with the red Kong ball [Bianca tends to chew up her other toys]!
Bianca had a new experience this week! One of her handlers accidentally
dropped a treat in Bianca's water dish. When she saw it, Bianca looked at
the treat for a moment and decided that she HAD to have it! She stuck her
nose in the water but couldn't get the treat out quickly enough. Soon,
Bianca realized that getting water up her nose was not a good thing! Her
handlers got a chuckle at her reaction! Bianca, you need to ask your
"boyfriend" Cragger to teach you how to blow bubbles when you put your face
in water!
Overall, Bianca's handlers think that she's doing just fine! Concentrate and
learn, little one! Your forever home is out there somewhere!
Week 4
Bianca continues to improve! She has her "sit" and "shake" commands "down
pat!" Bianca will "stay" until her handlers get about ten feet away from
her. That's a little too far for Bianca's safety zone, so she'll break her
"stay" to be with them! Bianca is still afraid of strangers and new things.
Her handlers have introduced her to some new friends on the block, but
Bianca tends to forget that they were her friends the next day! The good
news is, Bianca now eats all of her food, whether moist or dry!
Bianca continues to be most comfortable in her crate or on one of her
handler's beds. She sleeps with him every night and really enjoys laying on
top of him! "Once she goes to sleep she doesn't move all night. She sleeps
like a rock!"
Keep working on your "stays", Bianca. You're safe, little girl!
Week 3
Bianca did great this week! Her handlers have finally resolved the eating
issue! They weaned Bianca off of people food and puppy chow. She has
graduated to "big girl" food! Her handlers also "upgraded" Bianca from
"picky eater" to "messy eater!" She tends to like having her food spread out
before she eats it. Her handlers don't care about her being "messy," because
Bianca is eating!
Bianca is still playing well with the other dogs, and really likes her
"boyfriend" Cragger! This little one is still adjusting to the strangers
indoors, but she just ignores them when she's outside in the doggie yard!
Bianca tends to sleep with one of her handlers, but she also has no trouble
going to her crate when given the proper command. Actually, Bianca isn't
choosy at all about where she sleeps! "When she is tired she will flop down
anywhere."
Bianca is still learning her commands. Her "sit" is good. Bianca understands
"lie down" sometimes. "Stay" is going to take some work! When her handlers
put her in a "sit/stay"," Bianca will use her front legs to slide herself
across the floor. Her handlers have told her "that's cheating" and will work
with Bianca to show her nicely how it's supposed to be done! Overall,
Bianca's handlers say that there are no major issues with her, and that
she's a beautiful dog!
Week 2
Bianca is slowly adjusting to life in the big house. She is most comfortable
in her cell or crate. She is coming around, but is still afraid of
strangers. Her handlers have been trying to expose her to as many new things
as possible, but little Bianca can be quite stubborn! She sits and turns her
back to new things! Bianca loves the outdoors, and is quite active!
She has no problems with the other dogs and really likes Cragger! They play
together for hours!
Other than animal crackers, Bianca is quite picky about what she eats! She
doesn't like plain dry food, so her handlers are mixing it with some moist
food. They say that they have to mix it REALLY well, because Bianca will go
pa-too-ey to anything that's dry!
Other than overcoming some of her fears and her eating issues, Bianca is
doing just fine! She's a great dog! Since she's still a puppy, she'd rather
play than learn her commands, but her handlers are working on it!
Relax and enjoy the attention, little one!
Week 1
Bianca's handlers think that she's beautiful! She didn't have any training
when she entered the program, but she now knows how to "sit" and "lie down"!
She's still a bit leery of her surroundings...new people and sounds can
definitely be scary! Her handlers say, however, that there is HOPE, because
she has relaxed quite a bit in the short time that she's been in the
program!
Bianca loves the outdoors, and plays well with the other dogs! She's very
good about going into her crate when given the command to do so. Of course,
she has already found a comfort zone on one of her handler's beds!
Bianca is just a youngster...full of energy and a "big baby"! Her handlers
think that she's "wonderful" and will make someone a great pet! Just make
sure you have your animal crackers hidden...she loves them!
UPDATE
4/11/09
Bianca is heading for the big house this Wednesday. She's a sweet,
American Bulldog mix who is just one year old. She needs her
confidence rebuilt and her trust regained before she'll be ready to head out
into the world, but we're sure that she'll do just fine.
