ADOPTED!!!
Week 14
Akira headed home this week and her new mom reports that she's
already doing great with her new kitty sisters and doggie brother.
She's had her first trip out to bring a smile to the face of someone in need
of some cheering up and there's lots more to come for her. We couldn't
be more proud of her!
Week 13
Jackpot!! Akira has finally found someone who will love and
appreciate her for exactly who she is. he'll have a wonderful home
full of love, attention and lots of exercise. Plus, she'll have a job!
Akira is going to be a therapy dog and also go through training to be a
search and rescue dog. We're all so excited for her!
Week 12
Akira is heading out this weekend to meet some potential new
friends. We really hope she finds someone soon who will love and adore
her as much as we do. She is such a dear, fragile soul and despite her
playful personality still needs some to comfort her and help her continue to
build her confidence and help her feel safe and secure. Maybe she'll
find them soon...fingers and paws crossed!
Week 11
Akira is so much fun to be around. She was a doll, as
usual, with the groomer this week and set the tone for the rest of the pups.
She walked nicely on her leash (for the most part) and came back looking and
smelling absolutely beautiful! She's been such a great addition to our
HOPE family, but we really hope that she'll find a home of her soon so that
she can start the next chapter of her life. We're all pulling for her!
Week 10
Akira reached some fantastic milestones this week. She can
now exist comfortably in a crowd with her handler nearby. She flits
from person to person and greets each one with a sniff and a wag. If
they're lucky, she'll stay for a backscratch and do her Akira-boogie.
It's terrific to see her starting to truly trust. She gets a great
deal of her confidence from her handler so her new family will have to be
patient while she learns that they're on her team as well. But, once
she does, there's no sweeter dog in the world than this one. It's
utterly impossible to be i a grouchy mood with Akira nearby. She's
like a breath of fresh air!!
Week 9
Akira is a very funny and creative dog. She bonds very
quickly to people and then truly gives them her entire heart! She
enjoys the company of her handler so much that this week at night she went
to her crate, pulled out her bed, dragged it over to his bed and laid down
right next to him for sleepy time. This girl is soooooooo ready to
head into a home of her own. She's just as nice as can be and with a
little help and patience from a new family, her confidence will continue to
grow. Does she sound like a good fit for you?
Week 8
Akira is one fabulous ball of energy!! She would play from
sun-up until sun-down if she could and then she'd be perfectly ready to
start again the next day. She's smart and loves to learn new things.
Plus she's absolutely adorable!!! She loves to be petted, snuggled,
scratched, danced with, trained, loved...anything that involves you.
She would be great at agility or flyball or freestyle or just about
anything. She's the whole package and now all she needs is a home of
her own where she will be loved for exactly who she is. She's been
waiting a very long time and now she's watched most pf her initial
classmates move on to their new families. Now, it's Akira's turn.
We know there is a border collie loving, frisbee tossing, creek swimming,
nature loving person out there who is as active and fun as Akira.
She'd make a great friend!!
Week
7
Akira had a great day out on the town this weekend. She
thoroughly enjoyed her time visiting the residents of the Alzheimer's Unit
at Manor Care Nursing Home. She was a little nervous at first, but
once everyone was settled in, she worked the room like a pro. She
showed off her tricks, freely offered her belly for tummy rubs and was more
than happy to take treats from each of the residents. Her adorable
spotted legs were a big hit among the staff and residents at the nursing
home and she just ate up all of the attention. She is such a funny
girl and full of personality. She's still a bit nervous around
strangers, but she warms up quickly when given the opportunity to sniff them
out...and a few Pupperonis never hurt!!
Week 6
Akira has made more friends in her short time at the prison than any other
dog we've ever had. Her personality is positively infectious and it is
impossible to ignore the overwhelming zest she has for life. She's
still not completely sure of herself with other dogs so she compensates by
being a bit on the bossy side. It's all for show though. She
pushed Steven a little too far this week and was more than happy to back off
when he'd finally had enough and told her so. She is finally putting
on some much needed weight and her obedience training is coming along
nicely. Akira's biggest challenge at the moment is keeping her
paws on the ground when greeting friends. She is always so happy to
meet people, that she often just loses herself and goes straight past the
paw-shake and right onto hugging as she's known them her whole life.
We should all be so lucky that being overly friendly was our worst character
flaw. Akira will be out on the town over the weekend. Stop in at
Borders in Camp Hill from noon to 3 PM this Saturday and say hello!
Week 5
Akira has really found herself at the prison. She's become more and
more confident with each passing week and now relishes the idea of strangers
coming over to pet her. She became very attached to her handlers very
quickly so there's no doubt that she'll do the same for the person or people
who decide that she's the girl for them. Akira will heading out on the
town with Steven next Saturday, August 16th. They'll both be doing a
therapy day at ManorCare nursing home in Camp Hill and then heading on to
Borders in Camp Hill. If you would like to meet this sweetheart of a
girl, please stop into Borders on the 16th between noon and 3:00 to say
hello.
Week 4
Akira is quite simply one of the sweetest dogs we've ever had. She is
so friendly with people and it's utterly impossible to be in a bad mood
whenever she's nearby. She loves attention and is learning to keep her
paws on the floor in order to get it. Her manners with the other dogs
improve from week to week and she's made some new doggie friends over the
last month. She adores Steven and gets along great with Cole and
Charlie too. This little girl will make a great friend and companion
to a very lucky person. Is it you?
Week 3
Akira is just the definition of fun. She is such a happy-go-lucky kind
of girl. Her fear and apprehension of strangers is a distant memory.
Now, she sees all people as potential snugglers, ear-scratchers and
playmates. She can't get enough which is why her handler will be
working extra hard this week and helping her keep all four paws on the
ground. Her approaches to other dogs continue to improve. She's
learning that it's generally unnecessary to bark at every dog she passes.
She's even learning to play without dominating. She's come a long way
in just a few weeks and in just a few more, she'll be 100% ready to become a
wonderful friend to the person lucky enough to adopt her.
Week 2
Akira has really settled in nicely. Her fear of strangers is all but a
memory and she is absolutely loving the attention that she gets from
everyone at the jail. This week, she'll be working extra hard on
approaching other dogs while remembering her manners. She can be a bit
bossy with the other pups and can overwhelm them at first.
Fortunately, this just takes some practice. She's already made friends
with Steven and Elroy can't wait for the chance to play with her.
Akira had a very scary experience in her previous home where she was
cornered and attacked by the other dogs. Once she learns that she is
safe and that the "pack" can be a great deal of fun, we're sure she'll be
leading the games every day.
Week 1
Akira is off to a great start. She is absolutely adorable, but she's
already learned that good looks will only get you so far. For a shy
girl, she is coming around much quicker than we had anticipated. She's
already learning the many joys of being surrounded by lots of people who
always want to pet you and give you treats. What a life!! She's
approaching people on her own and showing less and less fear with each
passing day. She tends to be a little bossy with the other dogs, but
loves to play. She and Steven hit it off immediately and even Elroy
has fallen prey to her charms. Regardless, she'll be working on her
do-dog manners this week and an approach that's a little less rambunctious.
She's a real sweetheart and we can't wait to see her blossom here with us!
UPDATE
Akira is getting ready to start the program this Thursday, June 26th.
She is a two year old border collie mix who just needs a confidence boost
and some polishing up of her manners. She is
a sweet girl and is available for adoption through
Francisvale Home
for Smaller Animals. Stay tuned
for her updates.
